Running Intervals

December 22, 2017 by BrookeWeiss

Happy Friday! Today couldn’t have come soon enough for me this week because after today, I am taking an entire week off of work! I am excited to spend time with my family for the holidays, have a relaxing week at home, get a bunch of business things done for the new year and anything else that this next week will bring. Even though today kicks off the official holiday weekend, it is still important to get workouts in. Who else has 1,001 errands to run yet? Keep workouts short this weekend so you know you can fit them in. Even if you just move for 10 minutes today, your body will thank you.

I will be getting in a running interval workout today. I like to throw in interval training 1-2 times per week. Interval training is great for improving aerobic and anaerobic endurance, improves running performance, aids in weight loss, and fights off the dreaded boredom that comes with running. My next Spartan race may be a ways away, but I have to keep up with my running still and I like to do that in the form on intervals (especially in the winter). Take this workout at your own pace. If you end up not being able to make it through the entire 30 minutes, decrease your speed the next time.

Running Intervals

If on a treadmill, do at a 1% incline

1 minute fast walk

2 minute jog

30 second sprint

Repeat for a total of 28 minutes

Finish with 2 minutes of fast walking at 5% incline
