Strawberry Kiwi Infused Water

August 31, 2017 by BrookeWeiss

Monday came around quick this week after having an eventful weekend with friends and family! We had friends visiting us this weekend and it’s safe to say if you ever stay at my house, I will make you sweat at some point of the weekend. My girlfriend and I started the weekend off with hot yoga and the farmer’s market while the boys did boy things… After making brunch we headed north to my family’s cabin to spend the rest of the weekend. We were invited to an annual Smoke Off so I of course insisted that we go. At the Smoke Off there were three people each smoking a brisket and we got to judge and vote for our favorite one. Any event that revolves around food, is an event for me! But, now I want a smoker and some more of that brisket! The rest of the weekend was spent pontooning, indulging in some adult beverages, bonfires and wake surfing.

The second I got home yesterday it was back on track. No more alcohol and back to my normal eats. Whenever I spend a weekend away from home the first thing I like to do when I get home is make a meal full of meat and vegetables to kick start getting back on track and drink lots of water. I then treat it like any other week of eating whole nutrient rich meals and snacks, drinking lots of water and getting to the gym. After a weekend of fun I don’t restrict my calories and I don’t workout twice as long. I simply just immediately get back to my normal routine and maybe throw in a few extra vegetables. Practicing balance, moderation and having the choice of freedom when it comes to nutrition will allow for you to have your fun but not completely throw you off track. The more I practice these things and the more I tell myself it is okay to indulge every now and then, honestly, the less I want to do it. It has taken me years to not over analyze everything that enters my mouth and many try’s and failures to figure out what works best for me.

If you allow the weekends to be a full free for all, you will find yourself yo-yoing back and forth of indulgences, restriction, indulgences, restriction and soon you will be so far down the rabbit hole that it will be hard to get back out. I can assure you that a life of balance and moderation is much more happier and enjoyable than a life of restriction and self-destruction. Instead of eating and drinking whatever the hell you want Friday through Sunday start with only indulging on one of those days. When you feel happy and confident with that, try only having one indulgence per weekend. Strive for progress and not for perfection. Focus on what makes you feel your best and forget about anything else. And remember, if you happen to indulge more than you wanted to, brush it off and get back on track with your next meal.

I drink a lot of water every day and sometimes it is nice to change it up! Adding fruits and fresh herbs to your water is an easy and great way to get in a little extra nutrients while staying hydrated! Hydration is key for a healthy body and lifestyle so make sure and get it in!
