Summer Watermelon Fruit Salad

May 31, 2017 by BrookeWeiss

Comparison can be an evil thing. I do it, I hear others doing it. Why must we compare our chapter 10 to someone else’s chapter 20? There isn’t anything more detrimental to personal goals than comparing yourself to other people’s successes. Everyone is different. Everyone has different goals, motivations, failures, successes. The journey you are on should be your only focus because you are the only person who is going to get you to your goals. You don’t know what everyone has gone through to have what they have or to reach their goals.

What chapter are you on? Look back on your journey from time to time and be proud of how far you have come and use that to keep going. Everyone has a chapter 1. What we do to move forward from there is what sets us apart from the rest. It is what gets you to chapter 20.

I had to remind myself of this after running my last race. I looked at other women’s results in the Elite category and longed to be able to be that good. I train hard, I eat right, I put in the work. Why am I not that fast? Why am I not that fit? Why don’t I look like that?

It’s simple, those women are further into their journey than I am. Those women have different circumstances and lifestyles than I do. Those women are putting in their own time and energy to be as good as they are and that is all on them. Just like it is all on me to train and perform to the best of my ability. I’m not competing against them. I am competing with them. I am competing to bring my best performance to every race. All of our journey’s are unique and not worthy of comparison. Live your own journey. Be proud of your own successes.

I had watermelon this past weekend for the first time in a really long time and it was so.dang.good. We had a ton leftover so I quickly threw together this fruit salad. This make A LOT and would be perfect for any summer get together.
